Science Study Vocab Flashcards
Landform
Feature on the surface of Earth, such as mountains, hills, dunes, oceans, or rivers
Weathering
The mechanical or chemical processes by which, gravity, water, wind and ice break rock into small pieces
Sediment
Hard material that is moved and dropped in a new location
Chemical Weathering
The chemical process that break down rocks using chemicals found in the atmosphere
Physical Weathering
Geological process of rocks breaking apart without changing their chemical form
Erosion
The movement of soil or rock from one place to another, usually by water or wind
Deposition
The process by which gravity, water, wind, and ice transfers weathered and moved sediment
Coastline
The outline or shape of a coast or the border between land and a lake or ocean
Sand Dune
The gathering of sand grains that take the shape of a hill or sometimes, a pile due to the wind because of the effect of gravity
Lake
A body of water that is surrounded by land and is larger than a pond or a pool
River
A large, natural stream of water that flows over land and is a key part of earths water cycle
Mountain
A landform that is much taller than the surrounding area and it usually steeper than a hill
Delta
A wetland area that forms when a river empties into a larger body of water, such as an ocean or lake, or another river
Glacier
A large, slow-moving mass of ice, snow, rock, and sediment that forms on land and moves down a slope due to gravity and its own weight
Aquifer
A layer of underground rock or sediment that is soaked with water and allows water to move through it
