Science Skills Flashcards
What are patterns, trends, and relationships in data?
Patterns
Recurring arrangements or behaviors in data.
Example: A pattern of high sales every December in retail data.
Trends
The overall direction in which data changes over time.
Example: A steady increase in global temperatures over decades.
Relationships
Connections or correlations between variables in data.
Example: A positive relationship between hours studied and test scores, where more study time leads to higher scores.
What are independent and dependent variables?
Provide examples
IV = Change (temperature, light, time)
DV = Measure (plant growth, water temperature, heart rate)
What are controlled variables?
Variables that stay the same and maintain consistency in variables that could influence results, ensuring a fair test (e.g., temperature, equipment, time).
.
What is a research question?
Clearly state the problem or question to be addressed in an experiment, ensuring it is measurable and testable.
