Science Skills Flashcards
What are the steps of the scientific method?
a) define the problem, b) gather background information, c) form a hypothesis, d) make observations, e) test the hypothesis, f) draw conclusions.
What is the purpose of the scientific method?
To try to find an unbiased result and to find whether it is correlation or causation.
What is the scientific method?
An organized way of learning about the natural world.
What role do observations play in science?
Collect and record data, develop and test hypotheses/theories.
What is the difference between a hypothesis, law, and theory?
Hypothesis: Idea that is proposed and people try to prove it wrong.
Law: If x happens, y happens but it is not known why.
Theory: Many people try to prove a hypothesis wrong and if it cannot be proven wrong, it becomes a theory. *Does not mean it is right, just means it’s not wrong for now.
How can one (hypothesis, law, theory) become another?
