Atrium
The top 2 chambers in the heart that receive blood from the body or the lungs.
Ventricle
The bottom 2 chambers of the heart that send blood to the body or the heart.
Aorta
The main artery that sends blood from the heart to the body.
Vena Cava
The main vein that takes blood from the body to the heart.
Artery
A blood vessel that carries blood under high pressure from the heart.
Vein
A blood vessel returns blood under low pressure back to the heart.
Capillary
A very small blood vessel that is one cell thick. It is where exchange occurs between the blood and cells.
Double Circulation
Blood moves twice through the heart before going back to the body: Body 🡪 heart 🡪 lungs 🡪 heart 🡪 body.
Oxygenated
Blood rich in oxygen.
Deoxygenated
Blood lacking oxygen.
