Science Revision - Electricity Flashcards
Electricity
A flow of charged particles.
Current
An electrical flow caused when electrons move around a circuit and carry electrical energy from one place to another place.
Series Circuit
A circuit that only has one pathway. If one part of the circuit is broken, the whole circuit will break.
Parallel Circuit
A circuit that has multiple pathways. If one of the pathways is broken, the rest of the circuit will continue working.
Cell
A single unit of device that converts chemical energy into electrical energy.
Battery
A collection of cells that converts chemical energy into electrical energy.
Switch
A component in a circuit that can connect or break the circuit to control whether electricity flows.
Resistance
A measurement of how difficult it is for current to flow.
Resistor
The part of an electrical circuit that resists, or limits, the power of an electrical current in a circuit.
Short Circuit
An electrical circuit that allows a current to travel along an unintended path with no or very low electrical impedance.
