Science Quiz1- cells Flashcards
What are the 6 characteristics of living things?
🤯Living things grow in size, reproduce, and are able to repair themselves.
🤪Living things require energy.
🥶Living things respond to changes in their environment.
👍Living things have a life span.
Living things produce waste ( 💩)
Are composed of cells
What is the cell theory?
An explanation that summarizes the basic characteristics of living things.
What are the three points of the cell theory?
☝️All living things are composed of one or more cells
🌲 The cell is the basic unit of life
👈 All cells come from pre-existing cells
What is an organelle?
A small structure found within a cell; perform a specific function in a cell.
What is a cytoplasm?
The watery substance in SL in which the organelles are suspended; also used for transport and chemical reactions
What is a cell membrane?
The part of yourself that surrounds and holds the cell contents together; controlled movement of substances into and out of a cell
What is a nucleus?
The control center in a cell; stores the genetic information that directs all of the cells functions
What are chromosomes?
Rod like structures in the nucleus of a cell: Contain the genetic information of a cell
What is the vacuole?
A membrane- surrounded storage compartment in a cell: Stores food, water, and other materials
What is a cell wall?
Structures surrounding plant cells that protects and supports the cell; made of cellulose
What is the chloroplast?
Site of photosynthesis; chloroplasts in a plant cell absorb sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make food
What is a Flagella?
Tail- like structures that propels sells through their environment
What is a cilia?
Hair – like projections that help propel the cell or move the substances surrounding the cell
What do you plant cells have but animal cells don’t?
A cell wall and chloroplasts
What is the function of a cell membrane?
It controls the movement of materials into and out of the cell
