Science (Mix) Flashcards
What is a conductor (give an example too)?
A material that allows electricity to flow through is easily, metals
What is an insulator(give an example too)?
A material that does not allow electricity to flow through, non-metals
What is a series circuit?
When all the components are connected, meaning there’s only one path for the current to flow
What is a parallel circuit?
When the components are parallel to each other, allowing more than one path for the current to flow
What does a bulb look like on a circuit?
A circle with an ‘x’ through it
What does a wire look like on a circuit?
A straight line
What does a cell look like on a circuit?
A vertical line followed by a smaller one
What does an ammeter look like on a circuit?
A circle with an ‘A’ inside
What does a voltmeter look like on a circuit?
A circle with a ‘V’ inside
What does a fuse look like on a circuit?
A box with a straight line going through it
What does an open switch look like on a circuit?
A line on a 45degree angle with dots at each corner
What does a closed switch look like on a circuit?
A line with two dots on either side of where the switch would be
What does a resistor look like on a circuit?
A box
When a switch is open is the current flowing?
No
When a switch is closed is the current flowing?
Yes
What is electricity?
A type of energy that can build up in one place or flow from one place to another
How is static electricity created?
When certain materials rub against each other
What is current electricity?
The flow of electrons from one place to another carrying electrical energy
What is a force?
A force is a push, pull or twist applied to an object
What is force measured in?
Newtons (N) using a newton meter
When do contact forces occur?
When the object transmitting the force is in contact with the object receiving the force
What are non-contact forces?
A force that doesn’t require contact and is usually done via magnetism or gravity
What is the equation for working out force?
F=ma
What is the equation for working out mass?
m=F/a
