Science life cycle Flashcards
Interphase
90-98% of the time, the cell cycle doing these important steps before the cell divides in Mitosis.
G1
Cell growth
S phase
The copying of DNA
G2
Preparing/maturing for Mitosis
Mitosis
Finial part. Mitosis is the process eukaryotic cells use to make two new, identical cells. The new cells are like clones of the parent cell and are also called “daughter cells”.
PROPHASE
Start of Mitosis DNA condenses into chromosomes (organized DNA). Nuclear membrane disappears.
Chromosome
DNA inside and in an X for when it splits
METAPHASE
Chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell. Spindle fibers (yellow lines made from centrioles) help move the chromosomes around the cell.
ANAPHASE
Chromosome separates and begins to move Away or Apart to the opposite ends of the cell.
TELOPHASE
Two new nuclei form. Chromosomes decondense. Mitosis ends.
CYTOKINESIS
cytoplasm divides after mitosis to make 2 new cells
