Science Lent Revision Flashcards
P: Efficient
A device that is efficient will waste very little of the input energy
P: Convection
Convection occurs when particles with a lot of heat energy in a liquid or gas move from place to place.
P: Electrostatic
This is the energy stored when a repelling charge has been moved closer together or when attracting charges have been pulled far apart.
P: Work Done
When a force caused a body to move, work is being done on the object by the force. WD = F x D
B: Eukaryotes
Organisms whose cells have a nucleus. features: ribosomes, chloroplasts, mitochondria.
B: Pathogens
Organisms that cause disease, including some fungi, virus (even though its not living), protoctists and bacteria.
B: Ribosomes
Small organelles where proteins are made in the cell.
B: Active Transport
The movement of particles against a concentration gradient (area of lower concentration -> higher concentration) using energy released from respiration
C: Crystallisation
1) evaporate
2) remove from heat once crystals start to form
3) salt should start to form crystals
4) filter out the crystals and leave to dry somewhere warm
C: Test for Ammonia
turns DAMP RED litmus paper BLUE
RED ===> BLUE
C: Test for Chlorine
bleaches DAMP BLUE litmus paper WHITE
BLUE ===> RED (its acidic) ===> WHITE
C: Molecule
A particle that consists of 2 or more atoms chemically bonded together.
C: Ions
Ions are charged particles. they can be single atoms or groups of atoms.
C: Isotopes
Isotopes are different forms of the same element, which have the same number of protons but different number of neutrons.
C: Atoms
Made up of 3 subatomic particles:
–> PROtons, positively charged
–> NEUTrons, neutral (no charge)
–> electrons, negatively charged
