Peat
Brown soil-like deposit of dead floral matter; used as fuel due to its high carbon content.
Conservation
To preserve natural resources of significance.
Biodiverse
A large variety of life within an ecosystem.
Nature-Culture Relationship
A group of people’s ideas about which species have value or importance.
-Troph
Nourishment/food.
Eg. Trophic levels are the levels of a food pyramid.
Hetero-
Other.
Eg. Heterotrophs eat other species.
Conservation Plan
To preserve a plot of land/ecosystem whilst keeping in mind inhabitants of the land and their requirements.
Abiotic
Non-living.
Limiting Factor
An environmental factor that bars off an action, or controls an action, due to its necessity for a species survival.
Dependent Variable
Relies on the independent variable.
Independent Variable
A factor separate from the dependent variable, changed by the conductor. There can only be one independent variable.
Algorithm
A way to understand patterns in data.
Carrying Capacity
The amount of individuals in a species that a one area can support
Group Behaviour
The primal way a group of animals of the same species act in accordance with one another.
Eg. Protecting themselves and relatives.
Keystone Species
A quintessential part of an ecosystem that other species heavily rely on.
