Science - Forces Flashcards
What is motion?
Motion is a change in the position of an object.
Give me 3 examples of forces
1 - hitting a baseball with a bat
2 - typing on a keyboard
3 - pushing dirt with a bulldozer
Two volleyball players hit a ball back and forth. If they use the same amount of strength, how are the forces different?
They are in different directions.
When force is a put on an object, what can happen?
The object can turn.
The object can speed up or slow down.
During a soccer game, a ball is kicked toward the goal. How does the goalie stop the ball?
The goalie stops the ball by pushing it in the opposite direction it was moving.
When you go bowling, two objects are putting force on each other. Which ones are the objects?
Bowling ball and floor.
Bob and Joe investigated how a push can affect the motion of a still book. How does it affect it?
When the force is stronger, the book moves farther.
Malik wants to get a home run in baseball. He wants to make it go far and high in the opposite direction. What does he need?
He needs a strong force forward to do this.
How would the length of the arm affect the ball?
Longer arms put a stronger force on the ball. This causes the ball to go further.
What happens when you bounce a ball?
Force causes a ball to bounce down. The ground puts the force on the ball to cause the motion to change directions. We can push the ball back down. We notice a pattern.
