Science Final Flashcards
Why should Christian study life science
because it is God’s creation
Homeostasis
an organism’s ability to keep its internal processes stable
Some examples of Homeostasis
body temp regulation and blood sugar control
How do cells store info
with DNA in the nucleus
how do cells use info
they use the info encoded in da DNA to perform the various functions and activities
how do cells copy info
by using RNA through transcription and translation
How are traits passed from one generation to the next?
through genes
Are viruses alive?
No, they must reproduce with a host
How are animals classified
KINGDOM—PHYLUM—CLASS—ORDER—FAMILY—GENUS
—SPECIES
Vertebrate
Backbone
Invertebrate
No Backbone
Characteristics used to classify animals
Symmetry, Heads, Incomplete or Complete Digestive System, Presence of a Backbone, and Temp Control
How do animals get and use energy
get their energy from an outside source by eating other organisms. to grow, to move, to keep themselves warm, and to heal
Name three things that the body must keep in balance in order to maintain homeostasis.
internal temp, amount of water, and nutrients
How do animals circulate nutrients and breathe?
- through the circulatory system; open or closed 2. through the respiratory system; skin, gills, spiracles, and lungs
How do animals support, move, and control their bodies?
- with a form of skeleton 2. types of locomotion; muscular or passive 3. Nervous system
how do animals get and process energy?
they get it by eating stuff cause they’re consumers. They process it with a digestive system
How do animals maintain homeostasis
sweating, panting, shivering, goosebumps
How do animals reproduce after their own kind?
sexual reproduction
types of animal communication
sound, sight, chemicals, touch
What are the 11 different systems of the human body and their major functions?
- integumentary system provides protection and includes the skin
2.The skeletal system protects the internal organs and supports the body by providing a rigid anchor-ing point for muscles.
- The muscular system provides movement by pulling on the bones, causing them to move. Muscles are also involved in digestion and circulation
4.The digestive system supplies the body with energy by absorbing food. It also eliminates wastes.
5.The reproductive system creates and protects new human life.
- The circulatory system transports blood, which carries oxygen, food, and other substances throughout the body.
7.The urinary system eliminates cer-tain types of wastes and maintains the right amount of water in the body.
8.The respiratory system exchanges oxygen from the atmosphere with carbon dioxide in the blood stream.
9.The lymphatic system helps protect the body from threats such as bacteria and viruses. It is part of the larger immune system.
10.The nervous system
coordinates and controls movement and processes information from the sensory organs, such as the eyes and ears.
11.The endocrine system secretes chemicals that regulate body function
