science - electricity Flashcards
what is a contact force?
what is non-contact force?
- force needs to be in contact with object experiencing force
- a force that acts on an object without touching it
4 common types of forces
thrust, friction, gravity and support
thrust force
- pushes something forward
- usually through the reaction so accelerating a mass of gas
friction force
- a force that opposes motion
- one surface moves against another (When you rub your hands together, friction generates heat.)
gravity force
- objects that create gravitational field
- gravity gives objects mass (adds/gives weight)
- any object that experiences gravity force has weight force
support force
- opposite to gravity force
- (A chair supports your weight when you sit in it.)
key words for STD
motion, constant, stationary
what is motion
an object moving from one space of point to another over time
what is stationary
objects remaining at the same point of space over a period of time
what is constant
objects moving in a way that is consistently the same
what is the formular for STD
speed = distance/time
describe constant speed
an object that tarvels at the same amount of distance at an even time period
describe average speed
a speed that has travelled at an average over the entire distance
what is speed
measure of a distance travelled over time
describe instantaneous speed
speed travelled at a particular moment
