Science Cell Test Flashcards
Nucleus
regulates synthesis of proteins in the cytoplasm though use of messenger RNA.
Messenger RNS is a transcribed segment of DNA that is used as a template for protein making. Produced in Nucleus
DNA
: DNA produces RNA
RNA
RNA produces protein for the cell
Ribosomes
Responsible for the synthesis of proteins in cells. It serves to convert the instructions in messenger RNA into the chains of amino-acids that make up proteins
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Holds ribosomes while it is making protein
Vesicle
Transport the proteins from the ribosomes to the golgi apparatus where they are stored into new vesicles. The vesicles migrate to the membrane and release their protein to the outside of the cell.
Golgi Body
Sorts proteins for transport.
Mitochondria
Provides energy for the RNA to produce protein.
Cell Membrane
The thin wall covering the cell. It controls proteins entering and exiting the cell
Cytoplasm
Contains water, sugar, and specific orders to ensure cell’s survival
Gene
Segment of the DNA located at a specific place on a chromosome. It contains information to produce protein.
Chromosome
A threadlike structure that carries genes
Addition Mutation
A DNA that has a base added.
Subtraction Mutation
A DNA that has a base substituted
Substitution Mutagen
A DNA that has a base substituted
