Science Cell Quiz #2 Flashcards
Mitochondria
Produces energy through chemical reactions and the energy is called ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). ATP is necessary for the cell to carry out its functions.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
The ER Carries materials including proteins, around the cell. There is a smooth ER, and a rough ER with ribosomes attatched. The ER is basically the taxi service of the cell.
Ribosomes
Ribosomes are responsible for making proteins and can be found in the cytoplasm and on the rough ER.
Golgi Bodies (Apparatus)
The Golgi Bodies receive materials from the rough ER and packages them, when they are done packaging they send them out of the cell or send them somewhere else in the cell.
Lysosome
The lysosome is the digestive system of the cell. It breaks down waste and it sends some of those materials to be used again. It is usually in animal cells and rarely in plant cells.
Vacuole
The vacuole is storage for plant cells usually and for animal cells rarely.
Cell Wall
The cell Wall is only on plant cells and bacteria and it is on top of the cell membrane. It is not found in animal cells and it provides structural support and protection for the cell.
Chloroplast
The chloroplast contains chlorophyll which is a green pigment that absorbs sunlight and the chloroplast is where photosynthesis takes place.
