Science cell Flashcards
memorize
What is a cell?
The smallest structural and functional unit of an organism, typically microscopic and consisting of cytoplasm and a nucleus enclosed in a membrane.
What is a nucleus?
A nucleus, as related to genomics, is the membrane-enclosed organelle within a cell that contains the chromosomes
What is cytoplasm?
a fluid that fills the cell and occurs between the plasma membrane and the nucleus.
What is a cell membrane?
found in all cells and separates the interior of the cell from the outside environment.
What is a cell wall?
The cell wall is the protective, semi-permeable outer layer of a plant cell.
Mitochondria / Mitochondrion
They generate the cells energy needed to power the biochemical reactions.
What is Chloroplast
in green plant cells a plastid that contains chlorophyll and in which photosynthesis takes place.
Golgi complex
A stack of small flat sacs formed by membranes inside the cell’s cytoplasm gel like fluid.
what is endoplasmic reticulum
a network of membranous tubules within the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell, continuous with the nuclear membrane. It usually has ribosomes attached.
what is ribosome
a minute particle consisting of RNA and associated proteins found in large numbers in the cytoplasm of living cells.
what is Vacuole
a space or vesicle within the cytoplasm of a cell, enclosed by a membrane and typically containing fluid.
what is Organelle
Any of a number of organized or specialized structures within a living cell.
What is Prokaryote
Any organism that lacks a distinct nucleus and other organelles due to the lack of internal membranes.
What is a Eukaryote
An organism consisting of a cell or cells in which the genetic material is DNA in the form of chromosomes
what is Tissue
Types of material of which animals or plants are made of.
