Science / Astronomy Flashcards
You can tell me why understanding big numbers is important.
Big numbers are important so you can understand the universe
You can tell me what the 5 circumpolar constellations are.
Darco, ursa minor, ursa major, cepheus, and cassiopeia
what is the ecliptic line
Then sun and earth and the plants are on the ecliptic line
what is the equatorial line
The equatorial line helps us locate objects that appear in the sky
You can discuss the relationship between color and temperature
The color of the star can determine the temperature of it. For example if the star has a bluish tint it is one of the hottest stars but it has more of a reddish tone then it is one of the cooler stars
You are able to identify the different types of star brightness we can observe on Earth. (Absolute and Apparent)
apparent magnitude — how bright the star appears from Earth — and absolute magnitude — how bright the star appears at a standard distance
You discuss the life cycle of a star and what makes it move through the cycle.
It starts in the nebula then goes into the Main sequence then the super giant then the super nova lastly white dwarf or black hole
You can discuss nuclear fusion and know how it affects the life cycle of a star.
As the main sequence star glows, hydrogen in its core is converted into helium by nuclear fusion
You understand how seasons are created on Earth.
The earth’s spin axis is tilted with respect to its orbital plane
