Science And Engineering Practices Flashcards
Scientific method
The way scientists study and learn about the world.
Observation
Using your 5 senses to gather info about something
sight - hearing - touch - taste - smell
Qualitative Observation
Using 5 senses to describe the characteristics of and objects color, texture, taste, ect
Bad smell
Brightly colored
Smooth textured
Quantitative Observation
Using numbers or measurements to describe something.
Inference
Explanation of an observation based on what you know.
Hypothesis
A prediction always written in an if then statement based on prior knowledge.
Variable
Anything that can be changed in an experiment is a variable.
Control Variable
CANNOT CHANGE in an experiment. its kind of like a baseline for the experiment.
Independent Variable
The thing that you are testing. Its graphed in a x-axis chart.
Dependant variable
It changes based on the independent variable. it depends on what you are doing. it is basically the dependable result of an experiment. kind of. it’s an insufficient explanation I’m sorry.
C-E-R
Claim - Evidence - Reasoning.
? :thumbsup Because
CLAIM
Give an answer to the question based on your observations.
Evidence
Find info from a text or different source to support your claim
Reasoning
Explainin how it all adds up to support your claim ( slide 12 )
Conclusion
A written summary of an experiment that uses evidence to prove what you learn.
