Science Flashcards
speed
measurement of how fast an object is moving. it is the rate or unit of time at which a moving object covers distance. a fast-moving object covers a large distance in a unit of time. a slow-moving object covers a small amount of distance in the same unit of time. an object with no movement or at rest has a zero speed.
energy
ability to do work or cause change; the ability to move an object some distance.
velocity
speed and direction of moving objects.
force
pull or push that is applied to an object.
mass
amount of matter in an object.
gravity
force that exists between any two objects that have mass.
stability
factor that determines if an object can stay upright or remain in the same position.
mechanical energy
energy that an object has because of its motion or its position.
acceleration
change in the velocity (speed, direction, or both) of a body.
kinetic energy
energy an object has because of its motion.
inertia
object’s resistance to a change in motion.
