Science Flashcards
Cell membrane
Is a protective layer that covers the cells surface and acts as a barrier.
Organelles
Are structures that perform specific functions within the cell.
Nucleus
The DNA is enclosed inside an organelle
Prokaryote
Are single-called organisms that do not have a nucleus or membrane-bound organelles
Eukaryote
Organisms made of eukaryotic cells.
Cell wall
A rigid structure that surrounds the cell membrane and provides support to the cell.
Ribosome
Organelles that make proteins.
Endoplasmic reticulum
Is a system of folded membranes in which proteins, liquids, and other materials are made.
Mitochondrion
Is the organelle in which sugar is broken down to produce energy.
Golgi complex
The organelle that packages and distributes proteins.
Vesicle
Is a small sac that surrounds material to be moved into or out of a cell.
Iysosome
A cell organelle that contains digestive enzymes.
Cell
Is the smallest unit that can perform all the processes necessary for life.
