science Flashcards
States of Matter
The physical forms in which a substance can exist
Solid
The state of matter that has a definite shape or volume
Liquid
The state of matter that has a definite volume but take the shape of its container
Surface tension
A force that acts on the particles at the surface of a liquid
Viscosity
A liquids resistance to flow
Gas
The state of matter that has no definite shape or volume
Tempurature
A measure of how of how the particles in an object are moving
Volume
The amount of space that an object takes up
Pressure
The amount of force exerted on a given area of surface
Boyle’s Law
The law that states that the volume of a gas is inversely proportional to the pressure of a gas when tempurature is constant
Charle’s law
The law that states that the volume of a gas is directly proportional to the tempurature of a gas when pressure is constant
Change of State
The change of a substance from one physical form to another
Melting
The change of a state from a solid to a liquid
Evaporation
The change of a substance from a liquid to gas
Boiling
The change of a liquid to a vapor or gas throughout the liquid
