Science Flashcards
Solvent
The substance in which another substance dissolves
Saturated soloution
A solution in which no more solute can be dissolved.
Solution
The clear mixture formed when one substance is dissolved in another.
Sediment
The solid that gathers at the bottom of a liquid
Centrifuging
Seperating heavier components by spinning them quickly
Decanting
Pour liquid from a mixture leaving the sediment behind
Sedimentation + flotation
When water is added to the mix rapture and all heavy materiels sink to the bottom and light materials float on top.
Mixtures
Several pure substances combined
Can not be physically separated
Different amounts of each substance can be in the mixture
Like green salad easy to separate
Compound
Like a cake when set it is hard to seperate
Pure substance
A substance in which there is only one tupe of atom
