Science Flashcards
Emperical evidence
the information obtained through observation and documentation of certain behavior and patterns or through an experiment.
scientific method
the process of objectively establishing facts through testing and experimentation.
Experiment
a procedure designed to determine whether observations of the real world agree with or refute the derived predictions in the hypothesis
Investigation
the research methods and techniques that scientists use to develop hypotheses, gather data, conduct experiments, analyze data, and draw conclusions.
Tested (independent Variable)
the variable you manipulate, control, or vary in an experimental study to explore its effects.
outcome (dependent)
the variable that changes as a result of the independent variable manipulation.
Controlled variable
any variable that’s held constant in a research study.
tested group
group in an experiment that receives the variable being tested.
Control group
a group in the experiment which a variable is not being tested
Hypothesis
an educated guess as to what will happen during your experiment.
qualitative data
data representing information and concepts that are not represented by numbers.
Quantitative data
data that can be counted or measured in numerical values.
Observation
remark, statement, or comment based on something one has seen, heard, or noticed.
analysis
detailed examination of the elements or structure of something.
Replication
the action of copying orreproducingsomething. (Another scientist or person)
