science Flashcards
a testable proposal used to
explain an observation or to predict
the outcome of an experiment
hypothesis
a factor that can influence the
ourcome of an experiment
variable
predict the experiment and compare the outcome
control group
an interpretation of the results of an experiment as it applies to the hypothesis being tested . Example :
conclusion
an activity or procedure designed to falsify a hypothesis . It may seem strange to prove something wrong .However , it is not possible to prove something to be absolutely true because there may always be one more experiment that would reveal a flaw . It takes only one experiment to falsify a hypothesis . If you do not falsify a hypothesis then the results support it .
experimental group
able a factor in an experiment or
study that can be changed or selected
independant variable
the factor in an experiment or study
that changes in response to a change
in the independent variable
dependant variable
is a quantity that does not change.
