Science 1/15 Flashcards
Autotroph
An organism that makes their own food
Photoautotrph
Use sunlight to make energy to make their own food
Chemoautotroph
They use energy from inorganic compounds to make their own food, usually fungus or bacteria
Heterotroph
An organism that gathers food from outside sources
Producer
An organism that creates their own food or energy
Consumer
an organism that does not make their own food
Enzyme
a bio catalyst and is usually a protein
Denature
when a protein changes shape
Photosynthesis
The process that converts solar energy to chemical energy
Chlorophyll
The chemical that makes the chloroplast green, a pigment
Chemosynthesis
The process of making food by chemoautotrophs
ATP
Adenosine diphosphate, energy!
Cellular respiration
Chemical process that uses oxygen to convert chemical energy stored in glucose into ATP
Aerobic
If oxygen is present in the cells environment
Anaerobic
If oxygen is NOT present, occurs in the cytoplasm
Ways an enzyme/protein denature?
raising the temp, and lower or raising the pH
Purpose of photosynthesis?
To create glucose
Purpose of cellular respiration?
Create energy for the cell
equation for PHOTOSYNTHESIS
6h20 + 6co2 —— c6h12o6 + 6o2
equation for CELLULAR RESPIRATION
c6h12o6 + 6o2 —– 6h20 + 6co2

Organelle used for cellular respiration
mitochondria
2 stages of photosynthesis
Light reaction and Calvin cycle
3 stages of cellular respiration
Glycolysis, Krebs cycle, ETC
Can animals do photosynthesis?
NO
Can plants do cellular respiration?
YES
Two types of cellular respiration?
Anaerobic and aerobic
