Q

What is the course of the sciatic nerve?

A

Nerve of the lumbosacral plexus, enters the gluteal region through the greater sciatic foreman. Emerges inferiorly from the piriformis muscle. It enters the posterior thigh by passing deep to the long head of bicep femoris. In the posterior thigh gives branches to muscle of posterior thigh and adductor magnus. It then enters the popliteal fossa splitting into the tibial and common peroneal nerve.
