Musculocutaneous nerve Flashcards
What nerve roots does the musculocutaneous nerve use
C5-C7
Describe the course of the musclocutanous nerve
Musculocutaneous nerve originates from the lateral cord of the brachial plexus from the inferior border of pec minor. It perices the coracobrachialis muscle. Travels in the flexor compartment of the muscle between bicep and brachialis and emerges lateral to the bicep tendon. It then penetrates deep facia and continues as the lateral cutaneous nerve in the forearm.
Describe the motor functions of the musculocutaneous nerve.
Innervates flexor muscles of arm. BBC, Bicep brachii, brachialis and coracobrachialis.
Sensory the anterolateral portion of arm.
How is the musculocutaneous nerve injured
Iatrogenic - Dectopectoral approach
Stabbing/Laceration to upper arm.
