Sciance Inquiry Skills Flashcards
What is an independent variable
This is the variable that is being tested
What is a hypothesis
It is an if then statement. It gives short and precise possible explanation
What is a dependent variable
The variable changer in response to the independent variable. What is being measured
What is a controlled variable
What is being kept that same
What is an uncontrollable variable
A variable that can not be controlled
What is the difference between controlled and experimental test
That experiment is exposed to one type of condition and the controlled is not
What is the purpose of a controlled group
To have something to compare back to
What is a role of a placebo
To be able to measure that real affects of the treatment being tested and how effective it is
What is the difference between qualitative and quantitative data
Qualitative research gathers information that is not in numerical form.
Qualitative data is harder to analyze than quantitative data.
What are some ethical issues that can come from an experiment.
Animal cruelty
Torture
Consent
How to convert mm in to um
1mm = 1000um
How to you calculate your total magnification
Magnification of ocular lens x magnification of objective lens
How to calculate field of view (f.o.v)
A) use a mini grid to read the f.o.v at the lowest magnification
B) use the formula to calculate f.o.v at a high tee magnification
High power f.o.v = Low power f.o.v x Magnification at low power
In um In um Magnification at high power
How to find the size of the object on the slide
Size of objects = f.o.v and which is the object is being viewed at
___________________________________________________________________
Number of times object could be fit across the f.o.v
All at um
How to calculate the scale of a biological drawing
Size of biological drawing (um)
Scale= _________________________________
Size of object (um)
