Q

What is the difference between anabolic and catabolic reaction

A

Anabolic reactions is when something is being build up in the body. This requires energy is active energy
(Anna builds blocks)

Catabolic reaction when something is destroyed and releases energy
(The cat sat on the bomb)

Q

What is the first step of the lock and key model

A

The enzyme is substrate specific

Meaning: enzymes will only catalyse one specific reaction and substrate. Complementing to each other

15
Q

What is the second step of the lock and key model

A

~ An enzyme-substrate complex

~ The activation energy lower - which therefore the reaction occurs faster.

16
Q

What type of reaction is the second step of the lock and key model

A

Is a catabolic reaction, as the bonds are breaking down between substrate

17
Q

What happens in the third step of the lock and key model

A

The products formed are released -> enzymes are unaffected and moves onto catalysis another reaction

18
Q

What does substrate turn into once the enzyme had been catalysed

A

A product

19
Q

What is the first step of the lock and key model called

A

Enzyme + substrate

20
Q

What is the second step of the lock and key model called

A

Enzyme-substrate complex

21
Q

What is the last step of the lock and key model called

A

Enzyme + product

22
Q

How can the lock and key model be an anabolic reaction

A

If the steps occurred in a backwards motion
