Prodromal Phase
can last from weeks to up to 5 years sleep disturbances anxiety irritability depressed mood poor concentration deterioration in role function (esp. towards end of this phase) school/work does begin to deteriorate) Perception ideas of reference & suspiciousness can be seen late

2 or more symptoms lasting 1 month (one must be the first 3 symptoms)
- delusions
- hallucinations
- disorganized speech
- grossly disorganized (not logical in thinking)
- negative symptoms
