schizophrenia
a severe mental disorder where contact with reality and insight are impaired , an example of psychosis
positive symptoms of schizophrenia
atypical symptoms experiences in addition to normal experiences, they include hallucinations and delusions

- positive symptom
- sensory experiences of stimuli that have either no basis in reality or are distorted perceptions of things that are there
delusions
- positive symptom
- involve beliefs that have no basis in reality, eg they are being followed by fbi or that they’re god
negative symptoms
atypical experiences that represent the loss of a usual experience such as clear thinking or ‘normal’ levels of motivation
speech poverty
involves reduced frequency and quality of speech
avolition
involves loss of motivation to carry out tasks and results in lowered energy levels
co-morbidity
the occurrence of two disorders/conditons together
symptom overlap
occurs when two or more conditions share symptoms
