- What is the age of onset?
the males most common period is 16-25 for females after 30.
- What is attending to voices?
When a person responds to internal voices either verbally or behaviorally
- What are delusions?
a firmly –held idea that the person has despite clear and obvious evidence that is not true.
- Explain the different types of delusions
- Delusions of Persecution: They are out to get me (poison, kill, read my mind, steal from me)
- Delusions of Reference: It is a message for me (billboard, other people’s activities, TV)
- Delusions of Grandeur: belief that one is famous or an important figure – ie Jesus Christ, might also include special powers
- Delusions of Control: belief that one’s thoughts or actions are being controlled by outside alien forces.
- What is the DISCYS test?
The Dyskinesia Identification System Condensed User Scale - Medical evaluation for Tardive Dyskinesia given at six month intervals.
- What is disorganized speech?
Disjointed speech patterns due to fragmented thinking, inability to concentrate and lack of inhibition. Speech can be illogical and incoherent.
- What are some factors associated with disorganized speech?
1, Loose Associations: racing thoughts often without connection between thoughts
- Neologisms: made up words or phrases
- Perseveration: Repetition of words and statements, saying the same thing repeatedly
- Clang: meaningless use of rhyming words
- What are hallucinations?
Sounds, smells, touches and visual perceptions that exist only in a person’s mind.
- What is the inappropriate affect?
Affect that is incongruent with the patient’s situation or with the content of patient’s ideas or speech
- What are positive symptoms of schizophrenia?
Positive symptoms are highly exaggerated ideas, perceptions, or actions that show the person can’t tell what’s real from what isn’t.
This includes;
hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, inability to concentrate, memory issues, aggressive behavior and hostility. .
- What are negative symptoms of schizophrenia?
Negative symptoms refer to an absence or lack of normal mental function involving thinking, behavior, and perception.
This includes:
blunted affect, limited range of emotion, minimal & monotone speech, difficulty enjoying anything, socially isolated, lacks motivation, self neglect in terms of grooming or hygiene, slow movements.
