- to see how prior knowledge influences comprehension and memory
- participants were divided into groups where they were read a purposefully vague passage that was followed by comprehension and recall tasks. They were given title, no title, or title after the passage was read
- comprensión and memory were the highest in the topic before condition, meaning that schemas can improve comprehension and memory of information as we relate new information to existing information
