Schedules of Reinforcement Flashcards
What are ratio schedules based on?
Ratio reinforcement schedules are response based. Operant behaviour is only reinforced after a set number of responses are completed. This response requirement can either be fixed or variable.
What are interval schedules based on?
Interval schedules of reinforcement are time based. Operant behaviour is only reinforced after a set time has elapsed after response. This period can either be fixed or variable.
What are two types of Interval schedules of reinforcement?
Fixed Interval or Variable Interval.
What are two types of Ratio schedules of reinforcement?
Fixed ratio or Variable ratio.
What reinforcement schedule produces a scallop pattern of responses?
Fixed Interval, where probe responses gradually increase to a steady RR till reinforcement. Following reinforcement the pattern of responses begins again.
What response pattern does a Fixed Ratio schedule of reinforcement produce?
Staircase pattern or otherwise called break and run pattern. Where there is a high RR/bursts of intense responding till reinforcement. Following reinforcement there is a PRP (post reinforcement pause) when no responses are made due to the contingency that reinforcement is not likely to follow straight after reinforcement is given.
What schedule is the most resistant to extinction?
Variable-Ratio creates a steady RR and the unpredictability of reinforcement create a high resistance to extinction
what schedule is the most resistant to extinction?
Variable- Ratio
what are intermittent schedules of reinforcement?
Either interval or ratio schedules of reinforcement where reinforcement is intermittent.
In general interval schedules produce…
consistent higher RR because of the predictability of response being reinforced.
In general ratio schedules are…
categorically less-predictable so they tend to resist extinction and encourage continued behaviour.
what reinforcement schedule is easiest to extinguish?
Fixed-Interval.
What schedules of reinforcement have PRP’s?
