Negative Reinforcement
Child’s behaviour. A child receives ice-cream for drying the dishes without being asked and now often dries the dishes without being asked
Positive Reinforcement
Your behaviour. You often parked for hours in a loading zone near your work. You were fined for parking in a loading zone and do so less often now
Negative Punishment
Sam’s behaviour. Sam gambles every payday until he has lost his money. As a result, he stops gambling until the next payday.
Another Behavioural Phenomenon
Your behaviour. Whenever you go out on the day you are rostered on to clean your flat, your flatmate does your cleaning for you. As a result, you go out on cleaning day more often.
Negative Reinforcement
A teenager is suspended from school for “talking back” to the teacher.
Not enough information is present
Whenever you shut your window before you leave for the day, you prevent rain coming into your room. As a result, you shut your window more often in future.
Negative Reinforcement
You have ice cream after dinner on most days. Some days you have a slice of cake with your grandmother on the way home, as a result, you are less likely to eat ice cream after dinner.
