Schedule Management Flashcards

Q

How to calculate critical path?

A

Critical path is the path with the longest duration in the network diagram

A network diagram can have several paths.. but the CP is the one with longest duration.
CP = sum of all durations in the network diagram with the longest duration.

A CP will not have any float or slack because the project cannot afford to delay any activities on the CP .

Any delay in the activities on CP will delay the entire project .

Q

What is Float or Slack?

A

A float or slack is the number of days by which an activity in the network diagram can be delayed without having any impact on the final project delivery date or schedule.

Q

How to calculate Float?

A

Float = LS - ES or LF - EF

It gives the total days by which an activity can be delayed without impacting the schedule.

*Float will be zero for Activities in the critical path

Q

How to calculate Forward Pass?

A

Forward Pass = ES + Duration - 1

(Going forward increase the biggest number when there are multiple paths leading to the next activity)

Q

How to calculate Backward Pass ?

A

Back ward pass = LF - duration +1

( Going backward decrease the smallest number… for calculating the LF for the previous activity that splits into multiple activities)

What is PERT

A

Project evaluation and review Technique.

It uses the optimistic, realistic and pessimistic timeline estimate for evaluating Beta , standard and triangle data.

Formulas for PERT
Beta
Standard
Traingle

A

Beta = O + R(4) + P /6

Standard = P-O / 6
