Stage One

A

Asocial Attachment- The babies will have similar response to all objects.
Time, Reciprocy and Synchrony will all help the child form relationships with others

Stage Two

A

Indiscriminate attachment- The child will begin to show a marked preference to people rather than rather than inannimate objects.
They accept comfort from adults.
However at this stage dont show stranger or seperation anxiety.

Stage Three

A

Specific attachement- The infants will start to show stranger anxiety and distress when they have been seperated from a certain adult.
This means the child has formed an attachment with who we call the primary attachment figure.

A

Multiple attachments- After the child has formed its primary attachement they will display these behaviours towards others whom they are familliar with and these are called secondary attachments.

1964

A

60 working class babies and their families in Glasgow were studied, the data was collected through monthly observations/ interveiws and addition follow up visits at 18 months.
They studied stranger anxiety when the baby was left with the reasercher and seperation anxiety when the baby primary caregiver was in a differnt room

Findings

A

He found that seperation anxiety occured most between 25-32 weeks and stragner distress around 1 month later however in the follow up 18 months later they found 87% had developed multiple attachemnts but the strongest were with the mother.
