Rose: what did you say?
Rita: oh nothing! Yes it is a beautiful day. I think the sun is shining brighter and the colors of the flowers are more vivid then like I’ve ever seen them.
Rose: do you think it’s because today is my birthday?
Mary: is today your birthday?
Rose: you silly thing….you’ve always been near whenever I’ve needed anything
Goldie: and we’ll certainly be near you today
Mary: shhhhhh
Rose: marigold why are you acting so weird? Today is my seventeenth birthday. Nothing can go wrong today
Goldie: Oh don’t temp fate like that
Rose: what?
Mary: nothing, nothing.
Rita: so you’ll be seventeen today?
Goldie: oh dear.
Mary: STOP IT!
Rose: marigold what’s going on ? Everyone seems so nervous and jumpy about something
Rita: like I don’t know what you’re talking about
Rose: I think I do. Are you keeping a secret from me?
Mary: oh no! Never! Never!
Rose: yes you are, and I know what it is
Goldie: you do?
Rose: yes there must be a wonderful present that I’m getting for my birthday and everyone is trying to keep it a secret
Rita: oh that’s good. I mean, that’s right. Yes a present!
Rose: give me a hint what it is
Mary: I really have no idea
Rose: is it a surprise party?… And maybe before the evening is over I would experience my first kiss
Goldie: wow, you’ve got an imagination
Rita: and I was afraid she was going to say something about the spindle
Mary: shhhhhh
Rose: spindle?
Goldie: now you’ve done it
Rose: what’s a spindle ?
Mary: I don’t know what you’re talking about
Rose: yes you do, but to you wont tell me I’ll go ask my parents
Goldie: now you’ve done it!!
Rita: I didn’t mean to
Mary: there’s no time to argue, we’ve gotta find rose
Rose: hello Marigold. Isn’t it a beautiful day?
Goldie: seventeen years and I’m still not used to that name or this dress
