Scenario 5 Flashcards
OA Hip whats the SIN factor?
Severity - low/med 4/10 – dull ache
Irritability - aggs on flexion (putting socks on & playing balls). ↓to 2/10 within 1hr stopping
Nature – mechanical as pain intermittent
SIN factor is Moderate
(NB: may go into continuous from inflam aspect:OA)
What is the process of OA?
Degenerative joint disease:
Deterioration of articular cartilage
(water content as ages can reduce in cartilage-fiboris and split)
Formation of osteophytes (attempt to repair joint)
Debris can cause inflam:stretch of capsule
Problems and AIMs of treatment
Decrease ache/pain at hip (VAS)
Return him to playing balls and walking to pub if he had to stop
Increase RoM hip flexion
Decrease any stiffness if any
NB: no neuro defecits, red or yellow flags
Ax for Hip?
AROM & PROM hip flexion on both hips
End-feel,pain or resistance first,quality,RoM
(norm: 130° - consider age)
Accessory (AP) on G.Trochanter- see how joint glides:concave convex rule
What treatment options do you have?
AROM & PROM hip flexion on both hips
End-feel,pain or resistance first,quality,RoM
(norm: 130° - consider age)
Accessory (AP) on G.Trochanter- see how joint glides:concave convex rule
Distraction (belt) – open up joint space to ↑ joint space and fluid:relieve pain
MWM (sustained flex knee and L.cordad)
