Scapular and Subscapular Regions Flashcards
Supraspinatus
O: Supraspinous fossa of scapula
I: Superior facet of greater tubercle of humerus
N: Suprascapular Nerve C5, C6
A: 1. Initiates and assists deltoid in ABduction of arm
2. Acts with rotator cuff muscles
Infraspinatus
O: Infraspinous fossa of scapula I: Middle facet of greater tubercle of humerus N: Subrascapular Nerve C5, C6 A: 1. Laterally Rotates Arm 2. Acts with rotator cuff muscles
Teres Minor
O: Middle part of lateral border of scapula
I: Inferior facet of greater tubercle of humerus
N: Axillary Nerve C5, C6
A: 1. Laterally Rotates Arm
2. Acts with rotator cuff muscles
Subscapularis
O: Subscapular fossa I: Lesser Tubercle of Humerus N: 1. Upper Subscapular Nerve 2. Lower Subscapular Nerve A: 1. Medially rotate arm 2. As part of rotator cuff, help hold head of humerus in glenoid cavity
Teres Major
O: Posterior surface of inferior angle of scapula
I: Medial lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
N: Lower Subscapular Nerve
A: 1. Adducts arm
2. Medially rotates arm
Latissimus Dorsi
O: 1. Spinous processes of inferior 6 thoracic vertebrae
2. Thoracolumbar fascia
3. Iliac crest
4. Inferior 3 or 4 ribs
I: Floor of inter tubercular sulcus of humerus
N: Thoracodorsal Nerve C6, C7, C8
A: 1. Extends Humerus
2. Adducts Humerus
3. Medially rotates Humerus
4. Raises body towards arms when climbing
Pectoralis Major
O: 1. Clavicular Head: Anterior surface of medial half of clavicle
2. Sternocostal Head
a. Anterior surface of sternum
b. Superior 6 costal cartilages
c. Aponeurosis of external oblique muscle
I: Lateral lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
N: 1. Lateral Pectoral Nerve
2. Medial Pectoral Nerve
C5, C6, C7, C8, T1
A: 1. Adduct Humerus
2. Medially Rotate Humerus
3. Draws scapula anteriorly and inferiorly
4. Clavicular Head (Acting Alone)– Flexes humerus
5. Sternocostal Head (Acting Alone)- Extends humerus from flexed position
Triceps Brachii
O: Long Head: Infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Lateral Head: Posterior Surface of humerus, superior to radial groove
Medial Head: Posterior surface of humerus, inferior to radial groove
I: 1. Proximal end of olecrenaon of ulna
2. Fascia of Forearm
N: Radial Nerve C6, C7, C8
A: 1. Chief extensor of forearm
2. Long head resists dislocation of humerus, especially important during abduction
