how does a Scaphoid fracture occur ?

what is the important complication of scaphoid fracture
avascular necrosis of the scaphoid due to dorsal carpal branch of the radial arteries blood supply getting interrupted
symptoms
pain along the radial aspect at the base of the thumb
tenderness over the anatomical snuffbox
wrist joint effusion
pain on telescoping of the thumb
ivx
plain film radiographs in AP and lateral views
MRI diagnostic
initial mx
immobilisation with a futuro splint or standard below elbow backslab and clinical review to be arranged for 7-10 days later
orthopaedic management
undisplaced - cast for 6-8 weeks
displaced - surgical fixation
proximal scaphoid pole fractures- surgical fixation
features of psoriatic arthritis
asymmetrical
dip joint
dactylitis
features of avascular necrosis of the femoral head
asymptomatic + pain in affected joint
ivx with plain xray and MRI which shows osteopenia and microfractures
