Scan Exam Flashcards
Dermatome C5
Area of the deltoid muscle and lateral upper arm.
Dermatome C6
Lateral forearm.
Radial side of the hand.
Thumb and index finger.
Dermatome C7
Posterior Forearm.
3rd and 4th digits.
Dermatome C8
Medial forearm.
Ulnar border or the hand.
4th and 5th digits.
Dermatome T1
Medial forearm and upper arm
Dermatome T2
Medial upper arm.
Peripheral Strength vs. Myotomal Testing
Because these nerves are in the forearm we can test them. Ex. Wrist flexion is weak thus raising suspicion for ulnar nerve involvement rather than a myotome.
Radial nerve
- Extensor muscle of the forearm
Ulnar Nerve
- Flexor carpi ulnaris and the ulnar portion of the flexor digitorum profundus along with most of the intrinsic muscle of the hand.
Median Nerve
Flexor muscles of the wrist and hand.
Myotomal C5
Shoulder Abduction
Myotomal C6
Elbow Flexion with wrist extension.
Myotomal C7
Elbow Extension with wrist flexion
Myotomal C8
Finger Flexion
Thumb Extension
Ulnar Deviation
Myotomal T1
Finger Abduction/Hand Intrinsics
Myotomal C4
Shoulder Elevation
Myotomal C3
Lateral Neck Flexion
Myotomal C1-C2
Neck Flexion
