Test: Have the athlete identify finger/ check peripheral vision/ “read score board”.

Function: Pupillary reaction
Test: Shine light in the eye and eye movement.

Trochlear (Motor)
Function: Eye Movement
Test: Follow finger without moving the head

Trigeminal (Sensory and Motor)
Function: Facial sensation/ Motor Function
Test: Touch the face/ Have the athlete hold the mouth open.

Abducens (Motor)
Function: Eye movements
Test: Lateral eye movements

Facial (Sensory and Motor)
Function: Facial movements/ Taste
Test: Smile, wrinkle face, puff cheeks

Acoustic/ Vestibulochoclear (Sensory)
Function: hearing and balance
Test: Rub fingers together by the ear/ Rhomberg’s Test

Glossopharengeal (Sensory and Motor)
Function Swallowing and Voice/Taste
Test: Swallow and say “AH”
CN X
Vagus (Sensory and Motor)
Function: Controls the muscle for voice and resonance and the soft palate/ Taste.
Test: Say “AH”, Gag reflex using tongue depressor.
CN XI
Spinal Acessory (Motor)
Function: Neck Motion
Test: Shoulder Shrugging
CN XII
Hypoglossal (Motor)
Function: Tongue movement nd strength
Test: Stick out the tongue and apply resistance with a tongue depressor.
