SB 77 Fire Retardent Treated Plywood Flashcards
It is used as
Roof Sheathing
FRTP is generally used
Above party wall separations
Some FRTP has been reported to be deteriorating to a point
Where the roof is unsafe to walk on. This is 1st detected by noting excessive waviness in roofs near party walls
FRTP is said to become brittle to the extent that
One can put ones hand through it
All members involved in roof ops are advised to
Survey the roof especially in the area of party walls for
1) excessive waviness near party walls
2) use a tool to test integrity of the roof
3) officers involved in roof ops are directed to closely supervise these ops
If FRTP is observed at a construction or alteration site officers shall
Notify adjoining companies by phone followed up with a written memo and create a CIDS
The problem with FRTP is
it has been treated with a chemical that is designed to decompose the plywood faster and render it less flammable when exposed to very high temperatures, such as those found in structural fires. However a significant amount of plywood has been treated with chemicals that initiates the decomposition at temperatures much lower than intended. The process is faster in the presence of heat and high humidity
