Saws, Bars and chains Flashcards
Care, maintenance sharpening and OOS issues
How do you know which bar goes with which chain on which saw?
Most guide bars are stamped with the following info-Length, gauge width, Drive Link count etc. Most chain boxes have the same info on them as well. Also on most chain boxes is a list of saw sizes that will fit that chain.
Where is the info on which file size fits the chain you have?
Also written on the chain box.
Within the Convoy of Hope USDS collection of chainsaws, name some of the most common Husqvarna chainsaws that we use.

Name the steps to removing the guide bar.
1-Loosen bar nut(s)
2-Loosen tension screw until chain sags from bar
3-Remove bar nuts
4-Verify brake is released, remove drive sprocket cover.
5–Remove chain from bar with gloved hands or gloves and scrench.

What does it mean to ‘dress your bar’?
To dress a guide bar on a saw we look for mushrooming on the top of the guide rail.
File it down flat to minimize the wear.
We’ll also file along the top of the grooves and the length of the bar so that the chain runs flat along the bar.
Name a few maintenance practices for nose sprockets.
Clean it well while cleaning the rest of the guide bar. Verify that it rolls freely. Spray or drizzle some lubricant into the nose sprocket before chain is replaced.
Name the 5 critical parts of the saw chain’s cutting tooth.
Point, (working corner)
Top Plate
Chisel (Top Cutting edge)
Side plate, (side cutters)
Depth gauge.
