Irony
A mode of expression through word or events conveying a reality different from and usually opposite to appearance or expectation, often comedic
Hyperbole
Deliberate exaggeration; overstatement
Litotes
Understatement, making an affirmative point by denying the opposite; “she’s not the dumbest”
Caricature
Exaggeration or other distortion of an individule’s features or characteristics
Wit
A clever expression, evoking laughter through apt phrasing
Sarcasm
Intentional derision, gerneraly directed at someone with the intention to hurt
Ridicule
Word intended to belittle a person or idea and arouse contemptuous laughter
Parody
Exploitation of peculiarities of and author’s expression; imitation
Invective
Speech or writing that abuses, denounces, or attacks, can be directed at a person, cause, idea, or system
