Hasty Generalization
Leap to a generalized conclusion based on only a few instances
Post Hoc
assumption that one thing caused another simply because it happened prior to the other; “this will happen if this happens”
Ad Populum
A person or subject with values that are held by members of a target group; “everybody does it”
Argument from Outrage
“If you understand what makes a group angry, you can use that anger to persuade him to accept a position without critically evaluating it.” -Aristotle
Ad Misericordiam
Appeal to pity
Ad Baculum
Scare tactics; An appeal to fear instead of logic
Straw Man
making a distorted of exaggerated representation of a position that is easily refuted (crushed)
Ad Hominem
Attacks against a person rather than ideas
Red Herring/Smokescreen
Answering a question by changing the subject
Slippery Slope
Half an appeal to fear and half a causal fallacy; ex. Allstate mayhem commercials
