SAS 2 | Inflammation & Inflammatory Response Flashcards
Acute inflammation
Comes on rapidly , but is generally short-lived.
Chronic Inflammation
Often begins with the same cellular response, but morphs into a lingering state that persists for months or years when the immune system response fails to eliminate the problem.
What are the major events of an Inflammatory response
- Vasodilation
- Increase in capillary permeability
- Influx of Phagocytes
What is an Alarmins?
DAMPS
-Molecules that are released by dead cells, also secreted by sentinel cells
Function: Recruit and activate cells of the innate immune system and indirectly promote acquired immune reponse
PAMPS?
Pathogen-Associated Molecular Pattern
(Refer to book)
Cell wall of gram-positive
Peptidoglycans and lipoteichoic acid
Cell wall of gram-negative bacteria
Peptidoglycan that is covered with a layer of Lipopolysaccharaides (LPS)
Acid-fast bacteria cell wall
Glycolipids
Yeast cell wall
Mannan-rich carbohydrate wall.
TLR on the cell surface
- What can they detect?
TLR3 - ds viral DNA,
TLT 4 - Lipopolysaccharide of Gram-negative bacteria
TLR 5 - flagellin
TLR within the cells
TLR 3
TLR 7
TLR9
