This demonstrates that Europe prioritized technological advancement while Asia prioritized advancements inside its borders.*

The role that Christianity played in the expansion of European empires was, serving as a justification for their colonization. One example was when the Spaniards set up full-blown colonies in the Philippines running the colony to convert all these people because they claimed it was the will of God. This demonstrates that Spaniards used Christianity as an excuse to conquer more land.
How did ethnic divisions affect LAND BASED empires?
Ethnic divisions led to implementing certain policies on certain people so that the empires could maintain control. For example, Jews in the Ottoman Empire had to pay a Jizya tax after being expelled from Spain and Portugal. This demonstrates that because of ethnic divisions empires searched for a way to maintain order in their borders as a mean to control the inhabitants different from their own population.
How did ethnic divisions affect MARITIME BASED empires?
In maritime-based empires, ethnic divisions influenced the interaction between Europeans and the Indigenous population. In the Americas, Indigenous people revolted against the Spanish because they were trying to convert them to christianity, known as the Pueblo Revolt. This affected the development of the Spanish empire because the Spanish did not go to the Americas for a while out of fear.
What are some similarities in POLICIES that land based AND maritime empires used to ACCOMMODATE ethnic diversity within their empires.
Some policies that both land-based and maritime empires used to accommodate ethnic diversity were the Casta system in the maritime empires and the janissaries in the land-based empires. Regarding this, the Casta system and Janissaries were similar in the sense that they limited the social mobility of certain ethnic groups.
