Tableau will allow users to quickly and easily
connect to their database using the supplied data
connectors. This speed allows business users a
quicker self-service experience than traditional BI
products. Using the BOBJ Stack and Lumira users
need to go through a Universe before connecting
to a database
“Can you connect to a live data source?”
Tableau’s data flexibility you can choose to connect
Live to your existing database thereby leveraging
the databases engine if desired. Lumira needs to
create an in memory data model. It only connects
live to HANA.
“Can you explore your data or is it a report?”
Unfettered Analysis. Tableau does not limit a user
on how they wish to explore their data. We are not
limited in the amount of data points on the viz
(10000 for Lumira)
“Why are you looking at Tableau & Lumira?”
Probably using SAP for production BI/reporting and
IT have been offered Lumira for free. Remember
there is always a cost to free products. Tableau can
be deployed easily in a SAP environment
Direct Connect & Go and In-memory
Tableau supports
over 40 different live data sources natively in the
product. Tableau also has a state of the art in-memory
data engine. – no coding or scripting.
Lumira only supports an in-memory model. Tableau
provides the choice to connect directly to any data
sources without having to load it into in-memory first.
Many of Tableau’s customers also use SAP
The
companies have recognized that SAP production
reporting and BI Platform offering is good for mass
production reports, but is not strong for data discovery
and visualization. Tableau is being successfully
implemented aside many large SAP implementations.
Tableau can connect to more data sources
Tableau
has connectivity to numerous SQL and noSQL
databases. Include with Tableau is connectivity to SAP
BW and SAP HANA
